Primary School

Phelisanong operate the Mamello English Medium School, a primary school for orphans, disabled, and vulnerable children. The school aims to be exceptional: English immersion gives the children a head start towards higher education, and a developing school library opens the world of reading to Basotho children. Sports, art and music are integrated in the curriculum, along with life skills such as agriculture, nutrition, and HIV/AIDS awareness. Students exchange art and letters with twinned schools in Canada and the U.S., and are gaining entry into the world of the internet through a recent computer lab installation.

Secondary School

Phelisanong High School serves students from Form A through C. The school is primarily for girls who have been out of school for one or more years, or have not had the opportunity to attend other schools in the region. As secondary school is costly in Lesotho, Phelisanong offers scholarships to needy and deserving students to attend their high school.

Scholarships

In addition to offering placements for orphans and vulnerable girls at Phelisanong High School, Phelisanong administers a donor-driven scholarship program for students wanting to attend other schools in the Leribe district. To date, 135 students have benefitted from having school fees, books, and uniforms supplied through this program. A tertiary scholarship program is also open to Phelisanong volunteers, older disabled youth, and staff who wish to pursue higher education in health, education, and vocational studies. This program aims to build the skills base of the project team and provide sustainable livelihoods to people with disabilities.
