Handicraft Co-operative

The group produces traditional Basotho cultural handicrafts such as straw hats, knit articles, leathercraft, pottery, and reed mats. Youth, HIV/AIDS patients, and the disabled learn vocational skills and share proceeds of handicraft sales, fostering independance and providing cashflow to the Phelisanong project. A leatherwork co-operative consists of disabled youth who are trained in saddle and tack making, shoe repair, and artisanal leatherwork. A craft workshop and retail craft outlet is being built currently, serving tourists and travellers on the main Katse Dam access road, a major Lesotho tourist attraction. Crafts produced at Phelisanong will also be available for sale at the Guesthouse.
