An apple for the teacher
Find out about APPLES for ORPHANS here.

Founded in 2007, this primary school meets the educational needs of 300 orphans and vulnerable children. Integration of special needs students into the classroom affords disabled and mentally handicapped children the opportunity to learn, and fosters a culture of tolerance and compassion. 40 of the students at Mamello English Medium have special needs, from physical to mental handicaps. As founder Mamello Lehlotha puts it, “the children learn to have mercy for those with disabilities”.
The school aims to be exceptional; English immersion gives the children a head start towards higher education, and a developing school library opens the world of reading to Basotho children. Sports, art and music are integrated in the curriculum, along with life skills such as agriculture, nutrition, and HIV/AIDS awareness. Students exchange art and letters with twinned schools in Canada and the U.S., and volunteer teachers & education assistants from overseas provide diversity and additional support.
